The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has stated that major upgrades to vital electricity sub-transmission lines in the Greater Kumasi area are scheduled to be completed by June 5, 2026.

The project involves upgrading transmission lines from the KNUST Primary Substation to the Kaase Primary Substation and from Kaase to the Ridge Bulk Supply Point in Kumasi, according to a press release released on May 29.

In order to increase energy transmission capacity and improve the dependability and stability of the power supply within the Ashanti Region, ECG noted that the work included replacing the current 265 square millimetre conductors with 400 square millimetre conductors in addition to replacing weak cables.

According to the corporation, after the project is finished, people and businesses in Kaase, Kuntenase, Sewua, Bekwai, and the adjacent areas should see a major improvement in voltage quality and power supply reliability.

Additionally, according to ECG, the project would improve the resilience of the region’s electrical network by fortifying the sub-transmission link between the Kumasi 1 (K1) and Kumasi 2 (K2) Bulk Supply Points.

The power distributor expressed regret to consumers and locals for any difficulty caused while the work was being done, explaining that the brief interruptions were required to ensure Greater Kumasi had a more dependable supply of electricity.

Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, General Manager for External Communications at ECG, signed the statement.
