A high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Thailand, led by H.E. Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East, and African Affairs at Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid Hon. John Dumelo, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, a courtesy call at the Ministry in Accra on Monday.

Strengthening agricultural cooperation between Ghana and Thailand was the main topic of discussion, with a focus on prospects for public-private partnerships, food security, sustainable agricultural development, and agribusiness investment.

Thai investors’ interest in Ghana’s palm oil industry was one of the meeting’s main highlights.

The group looked into ways to build palm farms and processing plants to meet the industry’s increasing demand.

In addition to assuring the delegation of the Ministry’s cooperation in easing access to suitable land for agricultural projects, Hon. Dumelo reiterated the Ghanaian government’s commitment to fostering an environment that encourages agricultural investment.

He selected the Oti, Ashanti, and Ahafo Regions as places with ideal conditions for palm development and stated that Ghana has substantial agricultural potential.

Along with encouraging investments that would support value addition, job creation, and increased productivity throughout the palm oil value chain, the Deputy Minister also emphasised prospects for cooperation with nearby farmers.

He went on to describe the many investment incentives that are available, such as potential tax breaks for imported agricultural equipment and assistance from the appropriate government organisations.

Both parties were upbeat about the potential for further collaboration and decided to keep up their efforts to promote trade, investment, and agricultural growth between Ghana and Thailand for the benefit of both nations.

H.E. Mr. Thirapath Mongkolnavin, Ambassador of Thailand to Nigeria and concurrently accredited to Ghana, officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of the Royal Thai Embassy in Abuja, Thai companies, financial institutions, and members of Thai Community Ghana LBG comprised the delegation, which was in Ghana from June 13 to June 19, 2026.
