Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s criminal allegations in Ghana were “not credible,” thus the United States Immigration Court approved his application for permanent residency in the United States, according to his lawyers.
In a news statement dated June 16, 2026, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s attorney, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo of Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline & Partners, stated that “The court finds the criminal charges in Ghana not credible. However, the court’s ruling was made within the context of a United States immigration proceedings. The court’s decision was focused on whether Mr Ofori-Atta met the legal requirements for adjustment of status.”
In order to facilitate Mr. Ofori-Atta’s acquisition of lawful permanent residency in the nation, the lawyers published a press release announcing the conclusion of his I-485 petition for a Green Card.
The announcement states that the court heard testimony about the acts of Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), including the OSP’s prior ruling that Mr. Ofori-Atta was a fugitive from justice.
According to the release, the statement was made while he was allegedly receiving medical care in the United States and while his attorneys were corresponding with Ghanaian investigators.
According to the announcement, the court determined that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s criminal allegations in Ghana were not genuine.
However, it further stated that the court’s decision was taken only within the framework of US immigration proceedings, with the main focus being on whether Mr. Ofori-Atta satisfied the legal conditions for status adjustment.
Mr Ofori-Atta has been charged with a number of counts in relation to decisions taken during his tenure as Finance Minister.
