Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, Deputy Minister for routes and Highways, has urged contractors working on road projects around the country to keep routes under construction open to reduce disruption to motorists.

He emphasised that road improvements should not make roadways inaccessible, and urged contractors to implement temporary solutions to ensure the safe flow of vehicles and pedestrians during the construction period.

Speaking in the Volta Region on day two of the inspection of UltraNexus’ rehabilitation of the Asikuma Junction-Anyirawase Road on Thursday, July 9, the Deputy Minister directed contractors to regularly patch potholes, grade deteriorated sections, and implement effective traffic management measures to ensure the road remains passable until completion.

He emphasised that preserving accessibility on under-construction roads is a critical contractual requirement and asked all contractors to emphasise the safety and convenience of the travelling public while work is underway.

“I think that interventions such as the one we have seen here, when they are carried out by contractors, will reduce the inconvenience motorists face as a result of the construction. His Excellency has already apologised a number of times to citizens because of these projects.

“He pledged to make the country a construction site, and with the leadership of the Minister of Roads, my boss, we are actually seeing that. But the inconvenience, if it can be minimised, like we are seeing on this road, should be carried out,” he said.
