The Mortuary Workers Association has given notice that they plan to go on strike.

In protest of subpar working conditions and unmet demands, a nationwide strike is scheduled to start on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

The administration was accused by the workers of not listening to their concerns and not doing enough to better their working conditions.

The government has not addressed their concerns, which include the lack of personal protective equipment (PPE), which exposes workers to risks and infections, according to a statement released by MOWAG General Secretary Richard Kofi Jordan on Tuesday, September 17.

The workers also brought up unpaid salary arrears from 2020; additionally, the request for budgetary approval to hire 500 more mortuary staff has been turned down.

In addition, MOWAG is requesting payment of the COVID-19 incentive that the President declared but that mortuary employees have not yet received.
