Police are investigating the shooting at Kumasi’s Adventist SHS.

The shooting incident that took place at the Adventist Senior High School in Kumasi on Friday has prompted an investigation by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

According to a statement from the command, initial inquiries show that a second-year student, age 16, brought a locally made handgun with one BB round to class.

According to reports, the teenager inadvertently discharged the gun while attempting to display it to a classmate, striking another student in the process.

After receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the injured student’s health has stabilized.

“The juvenile suspect has been arrested, and the empty cartridge has been recovered and retained as evidence. During the questioning, the suspect stated that he took the weapon from his father’s bedroom without his father’s knowledge,” the statement said.

According to the police, efforts are underway to find and apprehend the father in order to aid in the investigation.
