A six-person caretaker team has been established by the Minerals Commission to assist the regional manager in managing the FGR Bogoso and Prestea mine operations.

This comes after the mining leases held by the business were terminated.

On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the government made the announcement of the termination, citing conclusions from studies from the Ministerial Committee and the Minerals Commission, which had examined the operations of the corporation.

The choice was made after in-depth discussions with all pertinent parties.

When announcing the termination, Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor clarified that the former operators had received warnings in August 2023 for a number of infractions pertaining to their mining operations.

The Minerals Commission encouraged the corporation to remedy these issues, but the company did not follow through.

The government’s decision has been contested by Blue Gold Bogoso Prestea Limited, which asserts that it is the new operator of the mines. The company says that its operations are lawful and that it intends to appeal the notice of termination.

In a statement, Martin Ayisi, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, verified that the caretaker team will “immediately oversee the day-to-day operations of the mine.”
