The completion date for the Kumasi International Airport has been scheduled for Friday, June 30, 2023, and the terminal will be turned over on Monday, January 30, 2023, according to the deputy minister of transportation, Frederick Obeng Adom.
Mr. Obeng Adom made the announcement on the House floor on Wednesday in response to a query posed by Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso of the New Patriotic Party, on behalf of Mr. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, the Minister for Transportation.
The Kumasi International Airport’s anticipated completion date was a question the MP posed to the Minister.
Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, is served by the Kumasi International Airport, a national airport in Ghana.
After Kotoka International Airport in Accra, the airport saw over 400,000 passengers in 2021, making it the second busiest in Ghana.
The distance between Kumasi International Airport and the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi, is six kilometers.
According to Mr. Obeng Adom, the control tower and fire station will be turned over on May 31 along with the runway extension, which will be turned over on March 31.
“Mr. Speaker, the terminal will be operationalized shortly after it has been handed over,” he said.
The Kumasi International Airport Project, according to Mr. Adom, was carried out in stages.
Phase one had been finished, he informed the legislature, but phases two and three were almost finished.
In 2003, Kumasi was designated as an international airport with a full team of security, customs, and immigration personnel, primarily for regional operations.
