“There has never been a time when Ghana has not been able to pay its bills” – Kwame Pianim

Economist Kwame Pianim, who was appointed as the Senior Presidential Adviser and Special Envoy for International Trade, questioned how former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, “the person who led us into the financial and economic crisis that we are in,” could advise the president on the same economy he destroyed.

“We haven’t been here before, there has never been a time when Ghana has not been able to pay its bills, and we are not going to start paying them until 2025”. he said

“This is the same guy who gets us kicked out of the Eurobond market. How can he be an envoy?” Mr Pianim questioned.

President Akufo-Addo “knows that the international community is not that gullible, so, you don’t send Ofori-Atta there”. he added.

“We don’t have an economy now, so, what is he going to advise on?” Mr Pianim in a Joy News interview.

A few weeks ago, the president reshuffled his cabinet, removing his relative from the position of finance minister.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s deputy Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has taken over.
