The Accra High Court has adjourned the trial involving Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, to Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following applications by their lawyers for an adjournment on medical grounds.
Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai opposed the requests, questioning the medical evidence submitted by the defence lawyers.
He told the court that the application filed on behalf of the first accused, Hanan Aludiba, did not include a medical report to substantiate claims that he was unwell.
In the case of the second accused, Faiza Seidu Wuni, her lawyer, Augustine Obuor, attached a medical report to the application. However, the Deputy Attorney-General challenged the document, pointing out that the person who signed it had not identified himself or herself as a licensed medical practitioner.
Dr Srem-Sai further argued that lawyers generally operate within law firms where other legal practitioners can step in when a particular counsel is unavailable.
He warned that granting adjournments without adequate safeguards could potentially delay the criminal trial indefinitely.
Presiding Judge Justice Francis Achibonga, however, noted that counsel for Hanan Aludiba had earlier submitted a medical document indicating that his client was unwell.
The court has therefore ordered that the medical report be placed on the case docket to enable the Bench to properly assess the applications and make a fair determination.
The high-profile court case is scheduled to continue on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 12:30 p.m.
