The torrential rainstorm that struck portions of the Greater Accra Region on June 26 is to blame for the widespread power loss, according to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

A June 26 news release contains this information.

According to the press statement, “The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) wishes to inform our cherished customers that outages within our network have been caused by the heavy rainstorm that hit parts of the Greater Accra Region today (Thursday, 26th June, 2025).”

“ECG wishes to assure all affected customers that our Engineers are working assiduously to repair the faults and restore power supply,” it assured.

” Individual/localised outages and incidents of fallen or sagging conductors within customers’ vicinities should be reported to the ECG Call Centre on 0302-611611, the nearest ECG office, or reach us on our social media handles via @ECGghOfficial on Facebook, X, or Instagram for prompt intervention” the ECG urged.

Background

On the evening of June 26, a powerful downpour struck portions of the Greater Accra Region. Several places were impacted by the strong winds that characterized the two-hour deluge.

Therefore, the ECG’s notification acts as a warning to allow power users to make other arrangements and to be patient with them.
